Tamil Nadu Assembly Moves to Grant Permanent Exam Exemption to Teachers Appointed Pre-2010

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly approved a motion today to grant permanent exemption from all competitive examinations for teachers who were appointed before 2010. The proposal, which was introduced by a senior member of the ruling party, seeks to acknowledge the long service and experience of veteran educators.

Under the current system, teachers appointed before 2010 are required to sit for periodic examinations to retain their positions. The new exemption would relieve them from this requirement, allowing them to focus on classroom duties and professional development.

Supporters argue that the move would reduce administrative costs and retain experienced teachers in the system. Opponents, however, raise concerns about maintaining standards and ensuring that all teachers meet current competency benchmarks.
