A suspended woman police officer, wanted for an extortion investigation, was taken into custody in Sasan Gir, Gujarat.
The Gujarat police confirmed that a female officer, who had been suspended earlier this year, was apprehended in the town of Sasan Gir on charges of extortion. The officer had been listed as a wanted person in an ongoing probe into alleged coercive money collection from local businesses.
Law enforcement officials said the arrest was carried out after a tip-off led them to the officer’s residence in Sasan Gir. She was taken into custody without incident and will appear before a magistrate later this week.
The police department has not disclosed the amount of money involved or the identities of the alleged victims, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. The officer’s suspension and subsequent arrest underscore the authorities’ focus on curbing corruption within the force.
