Supreme Court to Hear Petition to Drop FIRs Against Delhi NEET Protesters

The Supreme Court will hold hearings today on a plea filed by the Centre to cancel FIRs registered against protesters who staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi over NEET exam policies.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a plea filed by the Union Government today to annul the First Information Reports (FIRs) lodged against a group of students who protested at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) policies.
The protest, which began on the 12th of January, saw students and supporters gather to demand changes in the NEET exam structure and admission process. Police registered multiple FIRs against participants, citing public disorder and unlawful assembly.
In a formal application, the Ministry of Education requested the Court to dismiss the FIRs, arguing that the protests were peaceful and that the charges were unwarranted. The petition also cited the right to peaceful assembly under the Constitution.
The hearing, set for 10 a.m. today, will determine whether the Court will order the cancellation of the FIRs and whether any further legal action should be taken against the protestors.
