The Supreme Court is examining the liability of banks for financial losses incurred by victims of digital arrest frauds. The court intends to review the RBI's draft KYC guidelines before they are finalized by November 30.

The Supreme Court of India has taken up the critical issue of financial liability in cases of digital arrest frauds, a growing cybercrime threat targeting citizens. The apex court is seeking to determine the extent to which banks and financial institutions should be held responsible for the losses suffered by victims in such fraudulent transactions.

As part of its review, the court has expressed its intent to examine the draft Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines prepared by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The judiciary aims to scrutinize these regulatory measures before they are officially finalized and notified.

The RBI is currently scheduled to notify the revised KYC guidelines by November 30. The Supreme Court's intervention highlights the urgent need for stronger regulatory frameworks to protect consumers from sophisticated digital scams that exploit banking systems and personal data.
