The apex court directed a time‑bound completion of dowry trials and instructed states, UTs and high courts to run regular sensitisation programmes for judges, police and prosecutors.

Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and Augustine George Masih issued directives to accelerate the disposal of dowry cases across the country.
The court stressed the need for time‑bound completion of pending dowry prosecutions and ordered high courts to periodically review criminal appeals in such matters.
It further instructed states, Union territories and high courts to organise regular training and sensitisation programmes for judicial officers, police officials, prosecutors, protection officers and counsellors through judicial academies, police training institutions and other appropriate bodies.
These steps aim to curb delays, enhance protection for victims and ensure uniform handling of dowry offences nationwide.
