Supreme Court Awaits President’s Decision on Prosecuting MP Minister Over ‘Op Sindoor’ Remark Against Colonel

The Supreme Court has postponed its order on the prosecution of a Union minister who called a serving army colonel ‘Op Sindoor’, pending a response from President Droupadi Murmu.
The apex court in New Delhi has deferred a ruling on whether a Union minister should face criminal prosecution for referring to a serving army colonel as “Op Sindoor”.
The matter arose after the minister’s remarks, made during a public event, were criticised as disrespectful to the armed forces. A petition seeking the minister’s prosecution was filed in the Supreme Court, which then sought the President’s view before finalising its order.
President Droupadi Murmu’s response is now awaited, as the court has indicated that any decision on the prosecution will hinge on the executive’s stance. Legal experts note that the President’s assent is required under the constitutional procedure for sanctioning prosecution of a sitting minister.
