Sun Pharma Ordered to Shut Assam Eye‑Drop Plant Over Quality Lapses

Sun Pharma has been directed by the Drugs Controller General of India to shut its eye‑drop manufacturing unit in Assam after a series of inspections revealed serious quality lapses. The order, issued on Monday, cites repeated violations of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and failure to maintain sterility standards. The plant, which supplies eye‑drops to several markets, had previously been flagged for sub‑standard testing procedures and inadequate record keeping. Sun Pharma has stated that it will cooperate with authorities and will resume production once corrective measures are approved. The closure is expected to affect supply chains for certain eye‑drop brands until the company resolves the compliance issues.
