A Mini Cooper driven at 160km/h by Suhail covered half a kilometre in 11 seconds before a fatal collision in Kochi; investigators are sending the vehicle’s data recorder to Germany for analysis.
Suhail was behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper that accelerated to about 160 kilometres per hour on a stretch of road in Kochi. In the brief span of 11 seconds, the car covered roughly half a kilometre before it collided with an obstacle, resulting in a fatal crash.
The impact proved lethal for Suhail, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. No other vehicles or pedestrians were reported to be involved, and emergency services confirmed that the driver was the sole casualty.
Police officials recovered the vehicle’s electronic data recorder, commonly referred to as a black‑box, and have arranged for it to be forwarded to a specialist laboratory in Germany. The overseas analysis is expected to provide precise information on speed, braking and other parameters that led to the accident.
Authorities have reiterated the need for strict adherence to speed limits, especially on urban roads, and warned that reckless driving at such high velocities endangers lives and can trigger severe legal consequences.
