Study Finds Rising Drug Use Among School Teens, Mobile Internet Worsens Crisis in Guwahati

A survey of school‑going adolescents across India has revealed a noticeable uptick in drug‑related incidents within educational institutions. Researchers attribute part of the surge to the easy access to substance‑promotion content and peer networks facilitated by mobile internet usage. The study notes that students spend increasing hours online, exposing them to illicit drug marketing and peer pressure that can translate into experimentation. Among the regions surveyed, Guwahati in Assam emerged as a hotspot, with local educators reporting a sharper rise in substance abuse cases compared to other cities. Authorities in Assam are now urged to strengthen counseling services, digital literacy programs, and stricter monitoring of internet content in schools to curb the trend.
