Students Mock ‘Smart Schools’ as Protestors Highlight Dirty Swimming Pools in Jagraon

Earlier this week, a group of activists identifying themselves as Jan Alpha gathered on Kothe Khajura Road in Jagraon, Punjab, to protest against the condition of swimming pools in local schools that have been branded as "smart schools."

The demonstrators raised slogans questioning how children are expected to use facilities that contain dirty, stagnant water, and they urged authorities to address the health hazards immediately.

While state officials have repeatedly highlighted initiatives to modernise education infrastructure and provide better amenities, the protest underscored a stark contrast between official narratives and the on‑ground reality observed by students and parents.

Local residents reported that the pools, meant for physical education, have not been maintained, raising concerns about hygiene and safety for schoolchildren. The protest calls for swift remedial action and greater accountability in the rollout of smart school projects.
