A powerful storm swept through Sehore in Madhya Pradesh on Navami, bringing gale‑force winds and heavy rain. While a havan was being performed at a Durga pandal erected on Ganesh Mandir Road, the structure gave way and collapsed, sending debris onto the surrounding area.
Local residents reported a sudden roar of wind followed by the pandal toppling, creating a scene of confusion and fear among the devotees gathered for the ritual. Emergency services arrived promptly, and preliminary reports indicated that no serious injuries were recorded, though a few people sustained minor cuts and bruises.
The Sehore police and municipal officials cordoned off the site and began clearing the wreckage. They also urged the public to avoid the area while cleanup operations continue.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory warning that the region will continue to face cloud cover, thunderstorms and intermittent rain over the next few days, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
Authorities have appealed for calm and reminded worshippers that safety protocols must be observed during outdoor religious gatherings, especially when adverse weather is forecasted.
