Special Task Force captured Abhishek Nigam, who had fled after a Bhopal raid seized 74,104 bottles of codeine‑infused coffee syrup, bringing the total arrests to 25.

The Special Task Force (STF) in Madhya Pradesh has apprehended a suspect who escaped after a raid on a coffee‑syrup factory in Bhopal's Patel City. The operation uncovered 74,104 bottles of syrup containing codeine, prompting a large‑scale investigation.

Police identified the fugitive as Abhishek Nigam, a resident of Dehradun, who was tracked down after a ₹20,000 reward was announced for information leading to his capture. He was taken into custody in Dehradun and handed over to authorities in Bhopal.

With Nigam's arrest, the number of individuals detained in connection with the illegal syrup racket has risen to 25. The STF continues to probe the network that manufactured and distributed the narcotic‑laced product.

Officials said the seized syrup posed a serious public‑health risk, as codeine is a controlled substance. Further legal action will be pursued against all accused under relevant narcotics and food‑safety laws.

The case underscores the coordinated efforts of state law‑enforcement agencies to curb the illicit trade of drug‑tainted consumables.
