Steel Bridge Over Kumey River Launched, Huri Connectivity to Resume

A new steel bridge over the Kumey River in Kurung Kumey district has been launched, paving the way for restored road links to Huri.
A steel bridge spanning the Kumey River was officially launched in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday. The ceremony, attended by state officials and local leaders, marked the completion of a key infrastructure project aimed at reconnecting the remote town of Huri with the rest of the state.
The bridge, designed to withstand the region’s monsoon‑heavy rains and flash floods, is expected to cut travel time between Kurung Kumey and Huri by more than 50 percent. Prior to its construction, the river’s seasonal flooding had severed the road link, isolating Huri and hampering the movement of goods and people.
State transport authorities have announced that the new road will be opened to traffic within the next few weeks, once final safety checks are completed. The project is part of a broader initiative to improve connectivity in Arunachal’s hilly terrain and support economic development in the northeastern frontier.
"This bridge will be a lifeline for the people of Huri," said a senior transport officer. "It will not only ease travel but also boost trade and tourism in the region."
