State Government Eases Domicile Requirement for Gold Ring Welfare Scheme

The state government has announced a relaxation of the domicile clause in its gold‑ring welfare scheme, widening eligibility for beneficiaries.

The state administration issued a notification today indicating that the strict domicile condition attached to its gold‑ring welfare programme will be eased. Earlier, only households meeting a narrow residency criterion could claim the gold ring allotted under the scheme. The revised rule now permits families who satisfy a broader set of residency parameters to apply, aiming to increase the scheme's reach.

Officials said the change is intended to address concerns that the previous clause excluded many eligible families, particularly those who have recently moved to the state for work or marriage. By allowing a longer period of residence or accepting proof of temporary domicile, the government hopes to ensure that the benefits reach a larger segment of the poor.

The gold‑ring scheme, launched as part of the state's social security initiatives, provides a small gold ornament to women from economically weaker sections as a form of financial security. The relaxation is expected to boost enrollment ahead of the upcoming financial year, though exact figures on projected beneficiaries have not been disclosed.

The administration has directed district authorities to update application forms and inform the public through local media. Applicants will be required to submit standard identity and income documents along with the revised domicile proof.

The move has been welcomed by several civil‑society groups, which had earlier urged the government to make the scheme more inclusive. The state will monitor the impact of the amendment and may consider further adjustments based on feedback.
