A lottery held on Wednesday reserved eight Sarpanch posts for Scheduled Tribe women and eight for Scheduled Tribe men across Banswara’s 16 Panchayat Samitis.
The Panchayati Raj election authorities in Banswara, Rajasthan, conducted a reservation lottery on Wednesday to allocate Sarpanch seats for the upcoming local body polls. The draw, part of the preparatory process for the elections, determined the quota distribution for the 16 Panchayat Samitis in the district.
According to the lottery results, eight of the Sarpanch positions have been earmarked for women belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST), while another eight seats are reserved for ST men. This allocation ensures that half of the chief village leadership roles are held by women from the tribal community.
In addition to the Sarpanch reservations, the lottery also fixed the reservation of 43 seats in the District Council wards, reflecting the broader effort to balance representation across gender and social categories.
The reservation outcome is expected to influence candidate nominations and campaign strategies as political parties and independent aspirants align their tickets with the newly announced quotas.
