Scheduled Tribe organisations have cautioned the BJP that they could face electoral backlash in the 2027 polls and have begun a statewide torchlight campaign to mobilise support.
Scheduled Tribe (ST) organisations issued a formal warning to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, stating that the party could encounter a significant electoral backlash in the 2027 general elections if tribal concerns are not addressed. The warning was accompanied by the launch of a torchlight campaign that will span the entire state, aiming to rally ST communities and highlight their grievances.
The move comes amid growing apprehension among tribal groups over recent policy decisions and development projects that they say have marginalised their interests. Analysts note that the ST vote bank has become increasingly pivotal in several constituencies, making the BJP's outreach to these communities a strategic priority ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Activists began the torchlight march from key tribal hubs, carrying illuminated torches through villages and towns while distributing pamphlets outlining their demands. The campaign is scheduled to continue over several days, with organizers urging participants to maintain a peaceful and disciplined demonstration.
While the BJP has not issued an official response, party representatives in the state have indicated that they remain committed to inclusive development and will engage with tribal leaders to address the raised issues.
