The South Central Railway (SCR) announced plans to upgrade Malkajgiri railway station in Hyderabad into a major terminal, adding new lines and modernising platforms.
South Central Railway has unveiled a comprehensive plan to convert Malkajgiri railway station, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, into a full‑fledged terminal. The proposal includes laying additional tracks that will link the station with existing routes, thereby expanding its operational reach across the region.
Under the scheme, existing platforms will be widened, equipped with modern passenger amenities and real‑time information systems. The redesign aims to handle higher train frequencies and accommodate longer rakes, positioning Malkajgiri as a de‑congestion hub for the busy Hyderabad network.
Officials indicated that the project will be executed in phases, with initial civil works slated to begin within the next six months. Funding is expected to come from a combination of central railway allocations and state‑level infrastructure grants. Once completed, the terminal is projected to ease commuter pressure on central stations and spur economic activity in the surrounding suburbs.
The move aligns with SCR’s broader strategy to upgrade peripheral stations and improve connectivity in Telangana, reflecting the growing demand for efficient rail services in the state’s expanding urban corridors.
