Sonipat in Haryana has become the leading producer of medals for national and international sporting events, supplying most of the country's demand.
Sonipat, a city in Haryana, has attracted attention for its rapid growth as a major producer of medals used in national and international sporting events.
The rise is driven by a cluster of small and medium enterprises that have invested in precision casting, stamping and finishing technologies, supported by state subsidies and a skilled local workforce.
According to industry data, the Sonipat cluster now supplies over 80% of the medals ordered by the Sports Ministry, reducing reliance on imports and cutting costs for event organizers.
The development has also spurred ancillary services, from raw material suppliers to logistics firms, contributing to the city's employment and export earnings.
Officials say the model could be replicated in other parts of the country to boost indigenous manufacturing of sporting equipment.
