Activist Sonam Wangchuk called off his 26‑day hunger strike after meeting with BJP leaders JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, following pressure from 65 MPs across parties.
Sonam Wangchuk, the well‑known social activist from Ladakh, called off his 26‑day hunger strike on Tuesday. The protest, which began in early September, was aimed at drawing attention to the lack of basic infrastructure and services in the remote region.
Wangchuk met with BJP leaders JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh in New Delhi, where the two politicians listened to his concerns and promised to look into the issues.
He also said that 65 members of parliament from a range of parties had visited him or sent letters urging him to end the strike. The collective pressure from the political community played a key role in his decision.
In a statement released after the meeting, Wangchuk thanked the leaders and the MPs for their support and announced that he would resume normal activities while continuing to advocate for the people of Ladakh.
