The smoking area at Indore’s Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport was shut after the service contract expired, prompting unrest among travelers. Airport authorities said they will manage the zone themselves until a new tender is awarded.

Indore’s Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport has temporarily closed its designated smoking zone after the contract with the service provider came to an end. The decision, announced by airport officials on Friday, left many passengers without a designated area to smoke, leading to visible agitation in the terminal.

Witnesses reported that a group of travelers gathered near the former smoking area, voicing their displeasure and demanding immediate reinstatement of the facility. No injuries were reported, but the disturbance caused a brief delay in passenger movement.

Airport management has assured commuters that the zone will be operated directly by the airport authority until a new tender is finalized. Officials added that the interim arrangement will ensure compliance with health and safety regulations while a permanent service provider is selected.

The airport expects the new tender process to begin early next week, with the aim of restoring the smoking facility as soon as possible.
