Six youths drown in Ganga idol immersion near Champapur, Bihar; three rescued

Six young men went to the Ganga near Champapur village for a Karma Dharma Puja idol immersion and fell into the water. Three were rescued, one body was recovered and two are still missing.
Six youths from the Bakhteyarpur area travelled to the Ganga River close to Champapur village to perform the traditional immersion of a Karma Dharma Puja idol. While lowering the statue, the group slipped and all six fell into the fast‑moving water.
Rescue teams from the local police and river patrol arrived within minutes and managed to pull three of the men to safety. The remaining three could not be retrieved immediately.
Divers later recovered the body of one of the missing youths, confirming his death. Search operations continue for the two other men, whose families have been alerted and are awaiting further updates.
Authorities have warned the public about the dangers of performing idol immersions in strong currents during the monsoon season and have urged adherence to safety guidelines.
The incident has prompted local officials to review crowd‑control measures for future religious processions along the river.
