Around 600,000 registered voters in Meghalaya have successfully verified their credentials, according to the Election Commission.
The Election Commission of India announced that six lakh voters across Meghalaya have completed the credential verification process ahead of the upcoming state elections. The drive, which began earlier this year, invited registered electors to confirm personal details such as name, age and address at designated verification centres or through an online portal.
Officials said the high turnout reflects strong public engagement and will help purge duplicate or outdated entries from the electoral roll. Accurate rolls are crucial for ensuring a free and fair voting process, especially in a state with diverse ethnic groups and challenging terrain.
The commission has urged the remaining voters to complete verification before the stipulated deadline, warning that unverified entries may be excluded from the final roll. The successful verification of six lakh voters positions Meghalaya to conduct its next assembly polls with a more reliable voter list.
