Farmers in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, are cutting paddy while standing in water up to their waists as floodwaters continue to inundate the fields.
In the flood‑hit district of Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, paddy fields remain submerged, forcing farmers to work in water that reaches waist height. Despite the challenging conditions, they are continuing to harvest the crop to prevent total loss.
The standing water has turned the fields into shallow lakes, yet the farmers, equipped with simple tools, are manually cutting the stalks. Their determination reflects the urgency to bring in the grain before the water recedes and the produce is further damaged.
Local observations indicate that the floodwaters have persisted for several days, leaving the agricultural landscape water‑logged. While authorities monitor the situation, the immediate priority for the farming community is to complete the harvest under these unusual circumstances.
