Sikkim's Urban Development Department and Public Health Engineering Department have joined forces to implement an Asian Development Bank‑backed urban development project aimed at improving city infrastructure.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a significant urban development project in Sikkim, with the state’s Urban Development Department (UDD) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) taking the lead.

UDD will oversee the planning and execution of infrastructure upgrades, while PHED will focus on water supply, sanitation, and public health facilities.

The project, valued at several hundred million rupees, aims to modernise key city areas, improve drainage systems, and enhance public amenities.

Officials expect the initiative to create jobs, boost local commerce, and set a benchmark for sustainable urban growth in the Himalayan state.
