The Sikkim government will roll out an Aadhaar-linked biometric attendance system for its offices starting October 1, aiming to streamline employee time‑keeping.
The state administration announced that, from October 1, all government offices in Sikkim will adopt an attendance‑recording system linked to employees' Aadhaar numbers. The move is part of a broader effort to modernise payroll and time‑tracking processes across the public sector.
The biometric setup will capture fingerprint and iris data at entry points, automatically logging arrival and departure times. Officials said the technology will reduce manual errors, curb absenteeism and provide a reliable database for salary disbursement.
Implementation will be overseen by the State Information Technology Department, which will coordinate with the UIDAI to ensure data security and compliance with privacy guidelines. The system will initially cover administrative staff before being extended to other categories of state employees.
