The state of Sikkim has inaugurated the SOTTO Office to enhance its organ and tissue transplantation infrastructure, aiming to improve donor coordination and patient access.

Sikkim's health department announced the creation of a dedicated SOTTO (State Organ and Tissue Transplantation Office) to streamline organ and tissue donation processes across the state. The new office will serve as a central hub for donor registration, tissue banking, and coordination with hospitals and transplant centers.

Officials said the initiative is part of a broader effort to address the shortage of available organs and to ensure that patients requiring transplants receive timely medical attention. By consolidating data and standardising protocols, SOTTO aims to increase the success rate of transplant surgeries.

The establishment of the office also includes plans for public awareness campaigns, training programs for medical staff, and partnerships with national transplant networks. The move reflects Sikkim's commitment to strengthening its healthcare infrastructure and aligning with national health objectives.

The SOTTO Office is expected to become operational within the next few weeks, with the health ministry monitoring its impact on donor rates and transplant outcomes.
