Sikkim MP Indra Hang Subba met the Border Roads Organisation's chief engineer to discuss plans for improving road links in North Sikkim.
Sikkim's Member of Parliament, Indra Hang Subba, held a meeting with the chief engineer of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to examine the current state of road infrastructure in the northern districts of the state. The discussion focused on identifying bottlenecks that hinder year‑round connectivity and on prioritising projects that can be executed under existing budget allocations.
Both officials highlighted the strategic importance of reliable road links for local communities, tourism, and defence logistics, given the proximity of the area to international borders. They reviewed ongoing construction works and agreed to fast‑track critical segments that remain vulnerable to landslides and seasonal blockages.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to submit a detailed project proposal to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Defence for expedited approval. The proposal is expected to outline timelines, cost estimates, and required technical assistance from the BRO.
Stakeholders from the state government and local representatives were briefed on the outcomes, emphasizing that improved connectivity will boost economic activity and enhance emergency response capabilities in the remote Himalayan region.
