The Sikkim government has introduced an AI‑driven online permit platform aimed at simplifying visitor approvals and boosting the state's tourism sector.
Sikkim's tourism department has rolled out a new online permit system that leverages artificial intelligence to process visitor applications more quickly. The platform automates document verification and cross‑checks eligibility criteria, reducing the manual workload for officials.
According to the department, the AI engine can flag inconsistencies and suggest corrective actions in real time, cutting the average approval time from several days to a few hours. Travelers will be able to submit applications, upload required documents, and receive permits entirely through a web portal, eliminating the need for in‑person visits.
The state hopes that a smoother permitting process will encourage more domestic and international tourists to explore its Himalayan attractions, thereby supporting local businesses and employment. Officials said the system will be continuously updated to incorporate feedback and expand its coverage to additional tourist sites.
The launch aligns with Sikkim's broader digital‑first strategy, which seeks to modernise public services while preserving the environment and cultural heritage that draw visitors to the region.
