The Sikkim education department has signed an agreement with Google to introduce artificial‑intelligence training programmes across the state's higher‑education institutions.

New Delhi – The education department of Sikkim announced a partnership with technology giant Google aimed at integrating artificial‑intelligence (AI) courses into the curricula of the state's colleges. Under the agreement, Google will provide curriculum frameworks, instructional resources and faculty‑development workshops to help institutions build AI competency among students.

The initiative targets undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in engineering, computer science and related streams, with the goal of equipping graduates with skills that match industry demand. Officials said the rollout will begin in the upcoming academic session, covering a pilot group of colleges before expanding statewide.

Sikkim's higher‑education officials highlighted that the collaboration aligns with the state's broader digital‑education strategy, seeking to make the region a hub for emerging technologies. Google representatives noted that the partnership reflects the company's commitment to upskilling India's youth and fostering responsible AI use.

The department will monitor progress through periodic assessments and plans to incorporate feedback from students and faculty to refine the training modules. The move is expected to boost employability and attract tech‑focused investments to the Himalayan state.
