The Government of Sikkim has sent a rescue and relief team to Nepal following severe floods that have displaced thousands.
Sikkim's state administration announced on Monday that a specially equipped relief team has been deployed to Nepal, where heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread flooding and displacement. The team, comprising medical personnel, rescue workers and logistical support staff, is expected to arrive at the affected border districts within 24 hours.
The deployment comes as Nepal's central government declared a state of emergency in several provinces after rivers overflowed, destroying homes and infrastructure. Sikkim's Chief Minister emphasized the long-standing friendship between the two Himalayan neighbours and the need for swift humanitarian assistance.
Officials from both sides are coordinating the entry points and distribution of aid, ensuring that food, clean water and medical supplies reach the most vulnerable communities. The relief effort underscores regional cooperation in disaster response across the Himalayas.
