The chief minister of Sikkim assured assistance for Sikkim pilgrims stranded by flash floods in Nepal, urging swift relief measures.
Heavy rain triggered flash floods in Nepal, causing landslides and disrupting travel routes in the border regions. Several pilgrims from Sikkim, on a religious tour, were caught in the affected zones and faced difficulties reaching safety.
The chief minister of Sikkim, speaking to the stranded pilgrims, confirmed that the state government is coordinating with Nepalese authorities to provide immediate relief, including food, medical aid and transport back to India.
He also directed the state disaster management team to monitor the situation closely and to dispatch rescue teams if required. The CM urged pilgrims to stay in designated safe areas until the floodwaters recede.
Both governments are monitoring the evolving situation, and officials have warned of possible after‑effects such as road blockages and further landslides in the coming days.
The incident highlights the cross‑border impact of extreme weather events and the need for coordinated response mechanisms between neighboring countries.
