Sickle Cell Disease Affects 2.49 Lakh

The National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission has conducted a massive screening exercise in 17 tribal-dominated states, covering over 7.27 crore people. The results reveal that 2.49 lakh people are suffering from sickle cell disease, while 20.47 lakh are carriers of the disease. This data highlights the need for increased awareness and medical intervention in these regions. The screening process has helped identify affected individuals, enabling them to receive timely medical attention and counseling.
