In the recent Ranji Trophy encounter between Punjab and Chhattisgarh, Shubman Gill did not bat at the traditional No.4 position, sparking discussion among fans and analysts.
The Punjab team faced Chhattisgarh in a Ranji Trophy match where the usual top‑order composition was altered. Notably, Shubman Gill, who often occupies the No.4 slot for Punjab, was not listed at that position in the playing XI.
Gill’s absence from the No.4 slot prompted immediate speculation on social media and among cricket pundits. Observers pointed out that the young batsman either batted lower down the order or was not required to bat, a deviation from his regular role.
Team officials have not released a formal statement explaining the decision. Possible factors cited in informal commentary include tactical rotation, the specific pitch conditions, or a strategic move to protect Gill for later innings.
Such adjustments are not unprecedented in domestic cricket, where line‑ups are frequently tweaked to suit match situations. The Punjab camp is expected to clarify the rationale ahead of its next fixture, while Gill’s performance will continue to be closely watched.
