Senior Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav said the party will join forces with the Congress to fight the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly election and intends to secure a full‑majority government.

Shivpal Yadav, a senior figure in the Samajwadi Party and brother of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, announced that the party will contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly polls in alliance with the Indian National Congress. The statement was made during a press briefing in Lucknow, where he emphasized the need for a united front to challenge the incumbent BJP government.

Yadav outlined that the SP‑Congress partnership will field joint candidates in selected constituencies, aiming to consolidate anti‑BJP votes across the state. He added that the alliance will work towards a "full‑majority" government, which would enable it to implement its development agenda without reliance on external support.

Political analysts noted that the announcement, coming well ahead of the 2027 elections, could reshape the electoral dynamics in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP currently enjoys a strong foothold. The move also signals an attempt by regional parties to revive a broader coalition against the ruling party.

As of now, the Congress has not issued an official response to the proposal, and details regarding seat-sharing arrangements remain under discussion.
