Shankar Mahadevan Says Dil Chahta Hai Title Track Went Through 21 Versions

Shankar Mahadevan said that the title track of Dil Chahta Hai went through 21 different versions before the final scratch mix was selected. He explained that the team tried various arrangements and melodies during the creative process. After numerous attempts, the version that became the scratch mix was chosen as the best fit for the film. The composer added that this iterative approach helped capture the movie’s youthful energy. He also mentioned that the song remains one of his favourite works from that era.
