Severe Cyclone Murasu has made landfall near Ongole in Andhra Pradesh, bringing high winds and heavy rainfall to the coastal region.

Severe Cyclone Murasu, classified as a Category 4 system by the India Meteorological Department, has made landfall near the coastal city of Ongole in Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone brought sustained winds exceeding 150 km/h and gusts that reached 200 km/h, accompanied by heavy rainfall and a storm surge that threatened low‑lying areas.

Local authorities in Ongole and surrounding districts have issued warnings and urged residents to seek higher ground. Evacuation centers have been set up in schools and community halls to accommodate people displaced by the storm.

The Andhra Pradesh government has activated its emergency response plan, coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force to provide relief supplies and medical assistance. Early reports indicate that several villages along the coast have experienced flooding and damage to infrastructure, but no casualties have been confirmed as of the latest update.

Meteorologists predict that Cyclone Murasu will gradually weaken as it moves inland, but the heavy rainfall could continue to cause localized flooding for the next 24 to 48 hours. Residents are advised to stay tuned to local radio and television for updates and to follow official instructions.

The cyclone’s impact on shipping lanes and coastal tourism is also a concern, with several ports temporarily closed to ensure safety. The government is monitoring the situation closely and will issue further advisories as the storm evolves.
