The Election Commission has begun the second phase of voting for Rajasthan's panchayat elections. The phase covers 22 districts and includes 3,626 gram panchayats where residents are casting ballots for local governance positions.
A total of 21,839 candidates have filed nominations for the sarpanch post, reflecting intense competition at the village level. In addition, 45 gram panchayats reported unopposed elections, meaning the sole candidates were declared winners without a vote.
These elections are a key component of the state's local self‑government renewal, influencing development programmes and resource allocation in rural areas. Observers note that the outcomes will shape the political landscape ahead of the upcoming state assembly polls.
Election officials have urged voters to participate responsibly and follow COVID‑19 safety guidelines at polling stations.
