Voting for district council and panchayat samiti members started on Oct 28 across 22 districts of Rajasthan, though some polling stations faced delays due to malfunctioning electronic voting machines.
The Election Commission of India commenced the second phase of Rajasthan's Panchayati Raj elections on 28 October, covering 22 districts. Voters cast ballots for members of district councils (Zila Parishads) and panchayat samitis in a tightly scheduled polling exercise.
In this phase, 352 wards of district councils and 2,197 wards of 124 panchayat committees are on the ballot. The extensive rollout aims to complete the grassroots electoral process ahead of the year‑end deadline.
Election officials reported that electronic voting machines (EVMs) malfunctioned at several polling booths, causing temporary delays. Technicians were dispatched to troubleshoot the devices, and voting resumed once the machines were restored.
The commission has assured that the glitches will not affect the overall result and has urged voters to complete the process without undue hesitation. The second phase follows the first round held earlier this month, bringing the state closer to concluding its local body elections.
