The central government has approved an extra ₹14 crore for Science City Dehradun to expand its research and outreach programmes.
Science City Dehradun has been allocated an additional ₹14 crore by the central government, boosting the institution's budget for upcoming projects. The funding was announced in a brief statement released by the Ministry of Education, underscoring the government's commitment to science outreach in the region.
The science hub, inaugurated in 2018, serves as a centre for interactive exhibits, research collaborations and educational programmes aimed at students and the general public. Earlier allocations have supported the development of laboratories, planetarium upgrades and community workshops; the new infusion is expected to accelerate these initiatives.
Officials indicated that the fresh capital will be channelled towards expanding the city's laboratory infrastructure, introducing new STEM curricula, and organising larger-scale science festivals. The additional resources also aim to strengthen partnerships with universities and research institutes across the country.
Implementation is slated to begin in the upcoming financial quarter, with periodic reviews to monitor progress and ensure that the funds translate into tangible benefits for the local and national scientific community.
