Satna, a city in Madhya Pradesh, has been grappling with a shortage of safe drinking water, with residents reporting contamination in the supplied water. The municipal water‑filter plant, responsible for treating the supply, has come under scrutiny after complaints of foul taste and health concerns.
In response, a group of Congress councillors launched a sit‑in protest at the filter plant, demanding immediate remedial action. A handful of BJP councillors joined the demonstration, signalling cross‑party concern over the public health issue.
Local authorities met the protesters and, after negotiations, issued a written assurance promising expedited repairs, regular quality testing, and enhanced distribution to address the shortage. The written pledge was handed to the councillors on the spot.
