Indian chess prodigy Sahithi Varshini completed her third Woman Grandmaster norm, meeting the criteria for the WGM title.

Sahithi Varshini, a rising star in Indian chess, achieved her third Woman Grandmaster (WGM) norm in a recent tournament, thereby satisfying the requirements for the WGM title. The norm was earned after a series of strong performances against higher‑rated opponents, pushing her FIDE rating close to the 2300 mark required for the title.

The accomplishment marks a significant milestone in Varshini's career, following two earlier norms secured in national and international events over the past year. With this third norm, she joins a select group of Indian women who have attained the prestigious WGM status.

Officials from the All India Chess Federation congratulated Varshini, noting that her progress reflects the growing depth of talent in women's chess across the country. The federation expects her to represent India in upcoming continental championships and possibly the Asian Games.

Looking ahead, Varshini expressed her ambition to continue climbing the rating ladder and to compete for the full Grandmaster title, a goal she says is within reach with sustained effort and support from the chess community.
