The state’s support‑price maize procurement program in Sagar was found to have been manipulated by a group of individuals who fabricated purchase records. According to police reports, the fraud involved the creation of documents that claimed the government had bought 343 metric tonnes of maize.
The fabricated paperwork led to a payment of 76.31 lakh rupees being transferred into the bank accounts of 17 farmers who had not actually supplied any grain. The amounts were deposited under the pretext of a legitimate purchase.
Sagar police arrested the main accused and placed him in remand until September 19. Investigators are now probing the extent of the scheme and identifying other parties who may have benefited.
