A bridge costing ₹8.86 crore in Madhya Pradesh has remained unused for three years because the connecting road was never built, leaving around 50 villages without proper access.

The Madhya Pradesh government allocated ₹8.86 crore to construct a river bridge intended to improve connectivity for remote villages. Although the structure was completed, the approach road that would link the bridge to the existing highway was never laid, rendering the bridge unusable.

Local residents report that the absence of the road has effectively isolated about 50 villages, forcing commuters to take longer, often unsafe detours. The delay has also hampered the transport of essential goods, agricultural produce, and emergency services.

Officials from the state Public Works Department have acknowledged the oversight and said a detailed project plan for the missing road will be prepared. However, no concrete timeline has been announced, and the bridge continues to stand idle, symbolising a costly infrastructure gap.

Community leaders have appealed to the state administration to expedite the road construction, emphasizing the economic and social hardships caused by the prolonged inaccessibility. The bridge, once operational, is expected to reduce travel time and boost local economies.

Until the road is built, the bridge remains a stark reminder of stalled development projects and the urgent need for coordinated execution of infrastructure schemes.
