The government has issued a Rs 5,000 crore tender to build a 72‑km rail link between Mahu and Gaspurkhedi, aiming to complete it in four years and improve access to Madhya Pradesh’s tourist hubs Maheshwar and Mando.
The Ministry of Railways has floated a Rs 5,000 crore tender to construct a new railway line connecting Indore with Manmad via Mahu and Gaspurkhedi. The 72‑kilometre stretch is slated for completion within four years, according to the tender documents.
Once operational, the line will cut travel time to prominent heritage destinations such as Maheshwar and Mando, which are part of Madhya Pradesh’s emerging tourism circuit. Officials say the improved connectivity is expected to attract more domestic tourists and stimulate local economies.
The project is part of a broader push to upgrade regional rail infrastructure and promote sustainable tourism. Construction is expected to begin after the tender is awarded, with regular updates to be provided by the railway authorities.
Stakeholders, including state tourism officials, have welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to create jobs and boost ancillary services in the surrounding districts.
The tender invites bids from qualified contractors, and the selection process will follow standard government procurement guidelines.
