Rosatom has completed the delivery of approximately 300 engineered safety feature actuation system items for Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant units 3 and 4.
Rosatom, the state-owned Russian nuclear energy corporation, has finalized the supply of critical safety equipment for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu. The delivery specifically covers the Engineered Safety Features Actuation Systems (ESFAS) for units 3 and 4, which are equipped with VVER-1000 reactors.
According to the report, a total of approximately 300 items of equipment were manufactured and delivered to the facility. This includes four sets of ESFAS Control Stands (CS), aligned with the number of safety instrumentation and control trains required for each power unit.
The ESFAS plays a vital role in nuclear safety by monitoring process parameters within the power unit. It is designed to activate when there is a deviation from normal operating conditions, ensuring the safety of the reactor systems.
This completion marks a significant milestone in the ongoing construction and commissioning of the additional units at the Kudankulam site, reinforcing the safety infrastructure of India’s nuclear energy program.
