India's captain Rohit Sharma emphasized that the 2027 ICC World Cup is still a few years away, while announcing the start of his preparation camp ahead of the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies.

India's limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma told reporters that the ICC Cricket World Cup scheduled for October 2027 remains a distant target, and that the team's immediate priority is the forthcoming bilateral ODI series against the West Indies.

The comment coincided with the BCCI's announcement of a two‑match ODI series to be played in India later this month, designed to give senior players a chance to fine‑tune skills and test combinations before the next major tournament.

Sharma, popularly known as the “Hitman”, said the training camp will involve net sessions, scenario‑based drills and intensive fitness work, aiming to build momentum and assess the form of key batsmen and bowlers.

He added that while the 2027 World Cup is a long‑term goal, the West Indies series will serve as a platform for experimentation, with selection decisions likely to be reviewed after the series concludes.
