RLP Holds Balance of Power in Kekri Municipal Election as Congress Leads with 20 Seats

In Kekri's municipal polls, the Congress emerged as the largest party with 20 seats but needs one more for a majority, while the BJP secured 18 seats and the RL Party won two, making the RL Party's stance pivotal for the mayoral contest.
The recent municipal elections in Kekri, a town in Ajmer district of Rajasthan, have produced a fragmented mandate. The Indian National Congress emerged as the single largest party, winning 20 out of the 40 council seats, but falls short of the 21-seat majority required to form the municipal corporation on its own.
The Bharatiya Janata Party secured 18 seats, positioning it as the main opposition. The Rashtriya Lok Party (RLP) captured the remaining two seats, creating a hung council where the support of the small party becomes decisive.
Given the numbers, the mayoral and other key office appointments will hinge on whether the RLP aligns with the Congress or the BJP. Both larger parties are expected to negotiate with the RLP to secure the crucial extra vote needed for a stable administration.
Election officials have declared the results final, and the newly elected councilors are slated to convene shortly to elect the municipal chairman and other office bearers.
