Police in Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh have taken gang chief Jagga into custody for alleged extortion, blackmail and intimidation, according to India Today.

Police in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, announced the arrest of a local gang figure identified as Jagga. The operation was carried out by district law‑enforcement agencies after gathering evidence of his involvement in organized criminal activities.

Jagga has been charged with extortion, blackmail and intimidation, offences that authorities say have been used to exert pressure on businesses and individuals in the region. Investigators allege that he leveraged threats and coercion to extract money from victims.

A senior police official confirmed that the suspect is now in custody and will face further interrogation. The department added that the case is being forwarded to the crime branch for detailed prosecution, and that additional inquiries may uncover more participants.

The arrest is being presented as a step toward curbing gang‑related crime in the popular tourist hub of Rishikesh, where law‑enforcement agencies have been under pressure to restore public confidence.
