A joint residents' committee staged a torch‑light march across Sevai, Gulmohar, Trilanga and Bharat Nagar areas of Bhopal, calling for strict action against illegal building and commercial activities.
On Saturday, a coalition of resident groups in Bhopal organized a torch‑light march through the neighbourhoods of Sevai, Gulmohar, Trilanga and Bharat Nagar. The demonstrators, under the banner of the Joint Residents Struggle Committee, highlighted the proliferation of illegal structures and unauthorised commercial operations in residential zones.
Participants alleged that local land mafias have been allowed to continue their activities with impunity, while small shop owners face harassment and punitive measures. The marchers carried torches and banners, urging municipal authorities to enforce building codes and protect legitimate small‑business owners.
City officials have not yet issued a formal response, but the protest underscores growing frustration among residents who feel that illegal development is eroding the quality of life in Bhopal's housing colonies.
The torch‑light demonstration concluded without incident, and organizers said they will continue to press for swift enforcement actions.
