An accident in Delhi's Chawri Bazar saw rescue teams struggle because the area’s narrow lanes slowed their response, officials said.
Delhi police reported that an accident occurred in the historic Chawri Bazar area, prompting an immediate emergency response. Rescue teams reached the site but found the network of narrow, congested lanes impeded the movement of ambulances and fire‑fighting equipment, causing a noticeable delay in reaching the victims.
Senior police officials said the layout of the market, with its tightly packed shops and limited access points, made it difficult for large rescue vehicles to navigate. They emphasized that despite the constraints, personnel worked continuously to extract the injured and provide first aid.
A municipal corporation councilor, who inspected the scene, echoed the police’s concerns and urged the civic authorities to consider widening key access routes in heritage markets to improve emergency response times. The councilor also assured that the corporation would coordinate with the police to streamline future rescue operations in similar congested zones.
As of now, the rescue operation remains ongoing, with medical teams attending to those affected and investigators gathering preliminary information about the cause of the incident.
